Privacy Policy

Niro is an anime and manga tracker for iPhone and Android that works with your MyAnimeList (MAL) or AniList account. This policy explains what the app and getniro.xyz collect, where it goes, and the choices you have. "We" means Niro and its developer.
The Short Version
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
- You sign in on MAL's or AniList's own page. Niro never sees your password or your email address.
- Your list edits, likes and follows go straight from your phone to MAL or AniList.
- Signing in creates a Niro account on our server. It holds the items listed below, and you can delete it at any time.
Signing In and Your Niro Account
When you sign in with MAL or AniList, you approve Niro on their website. Niro's server confirms who you are, then hands the access keys (tokens) to your phone, which keeps them in its secure storage. Our server does not keep these tokens.
Signing in creates a Niro account linked to your MAL or AniList user. It holds:
- Your MAL and AniList user IDs, usernames and profile picture links
- An internal sign-in identifier made from your user ID. It is not your email address, and we never send mail to it.
- Preferences that follow you between devices, such as which list service you use, English titles and your AniList score format
What We Store on Our Server
Depending on the features you use, your Niro account also holds:
- Notifications. If you allow notifications: your device's push token, the time zone and quiet hours used to time alerts, the titles you follow for airing alerts, and a record of each notification sent (title, episode, time and whether it was delivered).
- Achievements. The badges you unlock and when, plus a summary of your list used to award them (how many titles you have in each status, what you have completed and how your scores are spread), so they carry over to a new device.
- Shelves. The shelves you create (name, description, the titles on them and their order) and the shelves you save from other people.
- In-app messages. Which announcements you have already seen, so they are not shown again.
- Sign-in records. When you sign in with MAL, we record the time, your MAL user ID and whether the sign-in worked, to spot problems and abuse. We do not store your IP address.
Shared Shelves Are Public
A shelf is private until you share it. Once you share it, anyone with the link can open it on getniro.xyz and see its name, description, titles and your MAL or AniList username. Shared shelf pages are hidden from search engines, and adult titles appear blurred on the website. Making the shelf private again, or deleting it, takes the page down within a few minutes. A preview that was already posted in a chat or on another website can stay visible there, because those apps keep their own copy.
What Stays on Your Phone
- Your MAL and AniList tokens, in the phone's secure storage
- Cached lists and anime and manga data, so the app opens quickly
- Your settings, and the copy of your list that the Home Screen widgets show
- AniList alerts: if you turn them on, your phone checks AniList itself in the background. Our server is not involved.
- Reports and blocks stay on your phone; Niro's servers receive nothing about them.
Niro asks only to add images to your photo library, when you save a share picture. It never reads your photos. Signing out removes your tokens from the phone, and uninstalling Niro removes everything it stored there.
Your MAL and AniList Accounts
When you update your list, score a title, add a favourite, like a post, follow someone, rate a review, delete an activity or change your AniList settings, the app sends that change directly from your phone to MAL or AniList. It does not pass through Niro's server. What MAL and AniList hold is covered by their own privacy policies.
The Social screens show posts from AniList. Pictures and videos that people embed in those posts load from the sites that host them (such as Imgur or YouTube), which can see your IP address, as with any website you visit.
Crash Reports and Diagnostics
Niro uses Sentry to find and fix problems. When the app crashes or hits an error, and for a sample of sessions, it sends:
- The crash or error, and the app's warning and error logs
- Performance timings
- Device model, operating system and app version
- Your MAL or AniList user ID, so we can find a problem that affects your account
These reports do not include your name, email address or IP address. Sentry stores them in the EU and deletes them automatically within 90 days.
Third-Party Services
Niro relies on the following services:
- MyAnimeList and AniList, for sign-in, your lists, and anime and manga data
- Tenrai, for anime and manga catalogue data
- AnimeSchedule, for airing times
- AnimeThemes, for opening and ending themes
- Supabase, which hosts Niro's server and database
- Expo, which delivers app updates and push notifications. Notifications reach your phone through Apple Push Notification service or Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Sentry, for crash reports and diagnostics
- Vercel, which hosts getniro.xyz
- Buy Me a Coffee, for optional tips. It opens in your browser, and we never see your payment details.
Catalogue requests go from your phone straight to these services, so they see your IP address and which titles you look up, but not your Niro account. Each service follows its own privacy policy and may process data outside your country.
Like any online service, our hosting providers see your IP address when the app or website connects to them. Supabase keeps its server logs, which include IP addresses, for about a day and then deletes them automatically. We do not use them to identify you.
The Website
Every page on getniro.xyz except shared shelf pages uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. They record the pages visited, the referring site, country, browser and device type, and how fast pages load. They do not use cookies, and getniro.xyz sets none.
Data Retention
- Your Niro account, achievements, shelves, notification settings and message records are kept until you delete your account.
- Sign-in records are deleted after 30 days.
- The record of notifications sent is deleted after 90 days.
- Supabase's server logs are deleted automatically after about a day.
- Sentry's crash reports are deleted automatically within 90 days.
- Data on your phone stays until you sign out, delete your account or uninstall Niro.
Deleting Your Account
You can delete your Niro account in two ways:
- In the app. While signed in, open Settings, then Support & Feedback, and tap Delete Niro Account (Niro 1.13.0 and later). Once you confirm, everything is deleted at once and that phone is signed out. Other phones signed in to the account are signed out within about an hour.
- By email. If you can't use the app, write to support@getniro.xyz with your MAL or AniList username. We will ask you to confirm the profile is yours, then delete the account within 30 days and reply when it is done.
Deleting your account permanently removes everything listed under "Signing In and Your Niro Account" and "What We Store on Our Server". That includes your shelves, so their shared links stop working, and other people's saved copies of them. On the phone you delete from, it also removes your sign-ins, cached lists and widget data.
Deleting your Niro account does not:
- Delete your MAL or AniList account, lists or activity. Those services have their own deletion options.
- Remove crash reports and server logs early. They expire on their own, as described above.
- Remove shelf previews already posted in chats or on other websites.
If you sign in again later, Niro creates a new, empty account.
Your Choices
- Turn notifications off in Niro's settings or your phone's settings.
- Make a shelf private, or delete it, at any time.
- Disconnect MAL or AniList, or sign out. Signing out does not delete your Niro account.
- Delete your Niro account, as described above.
Children's Privacy
Niro is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has a Niro account, contact us and we will delete it. Adult titles are hidden in the app unless you turn them on.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. If a change is significant, we will also say so in the app.
